Summertime in DTLA means plenty of outdoor, family friendly activities. One of our favorite things to do is visit Pershing Square’s Farmer’s Market and Lunchtime Concert. We can browse the food vendors and then, take our goodies over to the grass for a picnic with live music for a little dance party.
Fresh Fruit & Veggies
We watch as the local farmers start setting up their booths nice and early on Wednesday mornings during our first walk of the day. After JR wakes up from his morning nap and we take Boo Boo out for a walk, we head over to the market to survey the goods.
There are always delicious samples of fresh berries and stone fruit for both JR and myself to taste test before making our final decision. We typically grab a rack of fresh strawberries – $5 for three cartons. This week we sampled the most interesting fruit, it was a cross between a cherry and a plum. I highly recommend!
We haven’t purchased any vegetables from the vendors since we get an organic imperfect produce box each week but, the selection always look incredibly fresh and delicious.
Eats & Sweets
After we sample all of the fruits and nuts we desire, we browse the lunch vendors to decide what we are going to eat during our picnic.
There is everything from sushi to Greek to paupusas. I like to get a plate from The Kabob Masters (chicken kabob, rice pilaf, salad and a pita) for JR and I to share. The fresh watermelon juice is so delicious and it’s perfect for JR since it doesn’t have any sugar added.
My last must have stop is Sweet Patty’s. They have cinnamon sugar nuts that are to die for – plus a small pack is only $3!!!
Music in the Park
Once we have our lunch, we find a shady spot on the grass and set up our picnic. Every Wednesday a different 80’s band plays a fun and lively set. Now that JR is up and walking, that means he is also finding his rhythm and loves to dance. It is so adorable watching him drop it low and fist pump to the beat.
If you live or work near Pershing Square, visit the Farmer’s market and stay for the lunchtime concert each Wednesday through August 16!
We will be there this Wednesday so come say hi!
