Hey Mommas! It’s Monday and fall has (supposedly) arrived – everywhere except Southern California apparently. Each week I’ll be sharing my favorite playlist to help me get as much done on Monday as possible, since it only goes downhill as the week goes on! Each Monday, I’ll also be sharing our weekend recap, my to do list for the week and my Mom Tips, little life hacks to make it look like we have it all together.
Over the weekend, we celebrated Johnny’s co-workers 40th birthday at a lively party with delicious food (homemade horchata!), lots of girl talk and a professional poker dealer for the guys. Baby JR was an absolute sweetheart and was so excited to meet so many new friends. He was all smiles until he passed out in my arms, 2 hours past his normal bedtime. On Sunday, we went for our weekly walk, grocery shopped, cleaned the house, watched football and took a much needed family nap.
I’m craving cooler weather and I created a playlist with a cozy, bundled up week in mind. Even if I am wearing sandals and drinking (deaf) iced coffee.
Living in Downtown Los Angeles, means I am one of very few new moms in my area, so, it was important for me to get out of my comfort zone to meet new moms. Finding moms to hang out with isn’t exactly difficult, especially if you know where to look, but, making plans and following through to establish real friendships is the difficult part – for me at least! Here is my list of where to meet mom friends:
Place of Worship: I joined the Mops (Mothers of Preschoolers) group at Lake Ave Church in Pasadena. Meeting mothers with small children while discussing ways to create a strong Christian household has brought me so much joy. You sign up for a session that lasts about 7 months and are seated at a table with the same women each week. We rotate who is responsible for brunch offerings so that we can enjoy a yummy buffet while chatting, then a speaker will present a wonderful talk about motherhood, after the speaker each table will discuss the topic just presented. It is so much fun and I look forward to our next meeting as soon as it is over!
The Gym: Working out after baby is a necessary evil so to make it more enjoyable I love taking group exercise classes. Finding time to take a class can be difficult, especially with organizing a baby sitter to watch JR for an hour, but, it is so worth it. The cardio is amazing at jumpstarting your weight loss and there are more than a few other mommas in class that you can strike up a friendship with. I casually dropped a few hints that I was a new mom to another woman I had a suspicion was in the same boat as me and she asked if I wanted to meet up to walk our dogs later that week with our little ones in tow.
The Library: Reading to baby is so important and just browsing the children’s section of your local library will put you right in the middle of mommy central. Our local library offers music classes, story time and other family friendly activities throughout the weeks. There are less stay at home moms taking their children to the library activities and it’s mostly nannies but, they have amazing advice to offer!
