The new year is well underway and I am just recovering from the holiday season. I always look forward to Christmas once Fall comes along but, it never fails – I end up stressed out and it always takes me a few weeks to get back to my normal routine. Setting personal goals for the new year, helped me put the focus on the future and set my sights on growing personally and as a family.
Closing out 2016 as a new family of four (Johnny, myself, JR and Boo Boo) was so wonderful because Johnny finally took some time off of work and we were able to soak in the last few days of the year just doing what we do best as a family – staying home, cuddled up in bed, playing with the baby and dog while reading and listening to music and watching movies. Give us a staycation over an exotic, adventurous vacation any day!
During that time, I gave a lot of thought to what I wanted 2017 to look like for us as a family. I wrote down 10 things I wanted to accomplish both each month and yearly. It can be difficult to set goals because I usually feel pretty happy with the status quo and I have a fear of failing to actually accomplish any goals that I set. That fear of failing is such a deep struggle that I’ve had a hard time with my entire life. I like to just (figuratively) bury my head under the blankets and keep things as simple as possible so, that it’s easy to say, “Yes! That was a success!”.
Having JR has definitely given me a new sense of courage and self-assurance like nothing has before. During my pregnancy, I would stay awake praying over and over that the Lord would guide me and give me the natural instinct to be the best mother possible. I feel so confident in myself as a mother that it has allowed me to feel confidant about setting goals for the new year without fear. It was also important to make the things I wanted to accomplish manageable so, that I don’t get discouraged too quickly.
